Watchmaker Spencer Phillips wearing the Driver 8 wristwatchA Retford watchmaker has given the sales pitch of his life
when he went before the fiery lair of the Dragons' Den
judges recently.

Spencer Phillips, who owns Time in Hand in Market Place, Retford, has been filmed for the popular BBC Dragons' Den, where he hoped to persuade Peter Jones and the rest of the judges to invest in his unique watch designs.

Spencer says his Driver 8 watches are specially designed
to sit on the side of the wrist to allow the wearer to check
the time at a glance - particularly useful when riding a motorcycle or driving a car.

"I've watched the programme as everyone else has and decided to apply to be on it, but didn't expect anything to come of it," said Spencer.

"Then out of the blue a researcher rang me up and I went to Manchester for an audition where I did a sales pitch."

He was then asked to do another sales pitch in front of the show's producer before going down to the Dragons' Den studios in London to be filmed for the programme.

"On the day of filming, I was picked up from the hotel at 6.45am and taken to the studios," said Spencer.

"The actual pitch only lasted about two to three minutes, but I was in front of the Dragons for about an hour. It was pretty nerve wracking, as it's meant to be, and it was a long day, but I'm glad I've done it. It's not an experience I would have missed."

the Dragons, but he said had both positive and negative comments from them.

Spencer won't know whether he will actually make the final edit and appear on the show until a few weeks before the programme is aired.
